The Wheelchair and Seating Services across Scotland are based 5 main rehabilitation centres.

  • WestMARC (The West of Scotland Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre) is based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow and serves patients from six health boards – NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Ayrshire & Arran, NHS Dumfries & Galloway and part of NHS Forth Valley and NHS Highland.

  • The SMART (South east Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre is based in the Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh and serves patients from 3 health boards – NHS Lothian, NHS Fife and NHS Borders.

  • In Tayside the TORT (Tayside Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Technology) Centre looks after patients in NHS Tayside, as well as part of NHS Forth Valley

  • MARS (Mobility and Rehabilitation Service) is based in Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen and serves patients from NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland.

  • Raigmore Hospital, Inverness also provides a service to patients in NHS Highland and NHS Western Isles.

All centres provide a broad range of wheelchairs, both manual and powered, together with children’s pushchairs (buggies), following assessment of patient needs. They all use the same eligibility criteria. Details of these can be found below.

The first 4 centres named above are using the ReTIS software on a daily basis, with Inverness hoping to adopt the ReTIS software in 2021. All centres contribute data towards national reporting. Available reports can be found below.
